Westerner Championship Dairy Showcase adopting the Holstein Canada Show Ring Audit Program

This year the Westerner Championship Dairy Showcase Committee is adopting a new Holstein Canada Show Ring Audit Program to ensure the utmost care for the animals is emphasized and practiced. The new show monitoring program will ensure that the Westerner Championship Dairy Showcase will be on the leading edge of animal care responsibility since they are the first show in Alberta to adopt the program.

The Westerner Park Board of Directors fully supports this partnership. As an agricultural organization the Board of Directors feel as though it is important to showcase how animal care is of top priority, whether in the show ring or at home in the barn.

The Holstein Canada Show Ethics Program is a three year program. The first year Holstein Canada provides a team of professionals to carry out the monitoring, in the second year the Holstein Canada team trains and invites local show committee members to ‘shadow’ the monitoring process. In the third and final year the local show team carries out the task.

This year there will be around 160 head of Holstein cattle and 40 head of Jersey cattle at the show from all over Western Canada. Also, there will be a Junior Show, a Jersey Breed Show, and the Holstein Show. Central Alberta Holstein Club also puts on a Dairy Sale. For more information on these events please visit Westerner Park.

Cattle shows have always been an essential element of Westerner Park. The Westerner Championship Dairy Showcase first began in 1954 and dairy cattle and continue to be an important part of Westerner Park’s agricultural roots.

Western Canada’s largest dairy show will commence on Thursday, October 23 at 8:00 am and continue through until Saturday, October 25 in the UFA Agricentre East and West at Westerner Park.
