Successful day at the 2018 Brown Swiss National Youth Heifer Show

The 2018 Brown Swiss National Youth Heifer Show was held on June 30th during the National Brown Swiss Convention in Coralville, IA.
Ted Dement, from Illinois, judged the show along with Associate Judge Alan Graves from Iowa. 126 head were exhibited by 74 youth from 8 states.

The show displayed Iowa’s deep history in the Brown Swiss breed. Each class was sponsored by an Iowa Pioneer or their family. There were four showmanship classes, seven heifer classes, a genomic merit heifer award, and one state herd class.

Sixty-six youth competed in four showmanship classes. Novice Showmanship winner was Braylon Hoesly. WI. Garrett Waldenberger, MN, moved to the top of the class in the Junior Showmanship Class. Amy Hughes, OH, won the Intermediate Division against 22 other intermediate showmen and show women. Senior Showmanship had 34 youth competing with Laura Frye, IN, winning the class.

Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Champion was sponsored by William & Mary Gilbert of Gilbralter Farms. Junior Champion was won by Pit-Crew Formula Twilight, exhibited by Abby Foss, MN. Reserve Junior Champion honors were captured by Onward V Vernita Twin, exhibited by Carter Kruse, IA.

2018 Genomic Merit Heifer Award was won by Laura Frye, IN, with her heifer Miami Hills Bush Delsie. Laura was also this year’s National Youth Achievement Award Winner. Minnesota claimed the State Herd Award that was sponsored by Marvin Telleen of Telleen’s Swiss.

The Brown Swiss Association was established in 1880, registers about 10,000 animals per year and serves about 1800 combined Adult and Junior Members.
