Obituary for Wisconsin Guernsey Breeder Vernon ThelkeVernon W. Thelke, age 91, of Ripon, WI, passed away on December 27, 2016, at Maplecrest Manor.

Vernon was born in Fond du Lac, WI, on September 26, 1925, the son of Gustave and Augusta (Zech) Thelke. He graduated from Ripon High School, and then went on to UW Madison to pursue an agricultural program. On June 12, 1954, Vernon married Lois Albrecht at St. John Lutheran Church in the Town of Nekimi, WI. He was a lifelong farmer and farmed with his family until he retired in 2000. Vernon was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, The Guernsey Breeders Association, Ripon Co-Op, and 4-H. He loved to read, tell jokes, visit with neighbors, but most of all he loved his family.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; his children, Cindy (Kevin) Floeter of Waupun, WI, Julie (John) Otzelberger of Waukesha, WI, and Andrew (Anne) Thelke of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren: Collin (Brooke) Floeter of Waupun, WI, Kelly (Scott) Lewandowski of West Bend, WI, Corrin (Charles) Wilson of Waupun, WI, Beth and Emmakate Thelke, Jarred and Kalyn Otzelberger, all of Waukesha, WI; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Florence (James) Williams of Fond du Lac, WI, Ruth (Lyle) Hart of Black River Falls, WI; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Dick Williams.

A visitation for Vernon will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI, 54971, on Saturday, December 31, 2016.

A funeral service for Vernon will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Beaton officiating. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. A memorial is being established in Vernon’s name. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Agnesian Hospice Hope of Green Lake, WI, and also the entire staff of Maplecrest Manor for their loving care of Vernon.
