Obituary for Marinus “Rien” Meinen

Everyone at Cowsmo sends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Marinus “Rien” Meinen.

It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Marinus “Rien” Meinen on September 9, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gery, nee Hoekman, son Ryan (Rachelle), daughters; Shannon (Jamie), Dominique (Brock), and Zoe (Carson), and grandchildren Nate & Finley. He is also survived by his mother, Dora. He is predeceased by his father, Egbert.

Rien was born on June 5, 1963 in Meppel, Netherlands. He found his love for the dairy industry at a very early age and immigrated with Gery to Canada in 1990 to pursue a career in dairy farming eventually settling near Sylvan Lake in 1995 on his own dairy farm. There he and Gery raised their 4 children, working tirelessly to make his dream a reality.

He was diagnosed with ALS in December of 2016 and fought hard to the very end. For those who are wishing to pay their final respects may do son on Friday, September 14th, at the Sylvan Lake Funeral Home at 6:00pm. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the Sylvan Lake Alliance Community Church,4404 47 Avenue, Sylvan Lake,AB at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at the Burnt Lake Cemetery followed by lunch at the church.
