After closing the facility temporarily five months ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Dairy Cattle Center reopened last week.
On September 1, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences brought back its milking herd, which had been relocated to the Arlington Agricultural Research Station on March 27.
At the time, the university had planed to close the center for 60 days in light of Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer at Home order. That deadline had since been extended through the end of August.
Many of the farm’s full-time employees took positions at the Emmons Blaine Dairy Cattle Research Center, which is located at the Arlington property.
