Midwest Dairy Asks Public to Choose the Flavor of the Fair

After a record setting winter, spring weather has finally arrived in Minnesota, and our thoughts are turning to the summer days ahead. What better way to celebrate the warmer seasons than with ice cream and talks of a favorite summer tradition, the Minnesota State Fair?

For the fifth year in a row, Midwest Dairy is asking the public to vote for one of three new imaginative and delicious concoctions to add to its 2019 Minnesota State Fair menu through the “Flavor of the Fair” contest. Ice cream fans can vote now through April 12 on which malt or sundae flavor will be made and sold exclusively at the Dairy Goodness Bar at this year’s Great Minnesota Get-Together.

Minnesota’s dairy farmers want the public’s help choosing a new featured malt and sundae from the following selection of three delectable flavor combinations:

MINTesota Nice

  • Just like true Minnesotans, the flavors in this option mingle nicely together – chocolate mint cookies, mint syrup and chocolate drizzle over a smooth bed of vanilla ice cream or malt. It’s the perfect palate refresher after (or between) your other favorite state fair foods.

Birthday Batter Blast

  • This flavor combines the Great Minnesota Get-Together with birthdays – two things we look forward to all year round. Celebrate with creamy vanilla ice cream or malt topped with birthday cake bites and rainbow sprinkles. Get the cameras out – you’ll want to share this colorful creation with your followers.

Late Summer Dream

  • You don’t have to just dream about this flavor combination – the folks at Midwest Dairy have made it a reality. The rich vanilla ice cream or malt topped with zesty orange marmalade and crunchy vanilla wafers will have you thinking of warm sunny days, long after the summer sun has set.

Now through Friday, April 12, ice cream-lovers can visit Midwest Dairy to take the “Flavor of the Fair” poll and choose a favorite. Visitors are encouraged to share their pick online with the hashtag #DairyGoodnessFlavor. The winning addition will be announced in the coming months.

Last year’s winner –That’s S’More Like It – featured a creamy, crunchy blend of graham cereal, teeny marshmallows and chocolate syrup atop vanilla ice cream or malt. This take on the classic s’more was a huge hit with fairgoers. Previous Flavors of the Fair include “Pie in the Sky” in 2017, “Call it Breakfast” in 2016 and “Salted Caramel Puff”, the inaugural “Flavor of the Fair” in 2015.

During this year’s Minnesota State Fair, fairgoers will be able to once again suggest 2020 “Flavor of the Fair” combinations while they enjoy this year’s winning creation and watch Princess Kay of the Milky Way and other program finalists have their likenesses carved in butter. The Dairy Goodness Bar, located in the Minnesota State Fair’s Dairy Building (at the corner of Judson and Underwood), will feature a location where visitors can write in suggestions of their own. This year’s state fair runs from August 22 through September 2.
