• Flemings (great steakhouse by Hilldale Mall)
• DLUX (haven’t been but really want to go)
• Avenue Bar (#1 Fish Fry in Madison)
• Osteria Primavera (great, small Italian place by the Square)
• Tempest Oyster Bar (good seafood by the square)
• Old Fashioned (typical Sconnie fare and if you go you MUST have an Old Fashioned
of which this place is named after)
• Sardine (very nice, upscale on the lake near the Square)
• Coopers Tavern (great pub style place on the Square near State Street)
• Eldorado Grill (fancy Tex-Mex at a good price on Willy Street)
Things to do & See
• Madison boasts many parks beaches and recreational trails that charge no
admission fee – but that’s not the only way to have fun without spending money
• Allen Centennial Gardens, 620 Babcock Dr. – Stroll the outdoor and ongoing
classroom, which stretches 2.5 acres, from dawn to dusk
• Chazen Museum of Art – 750 University Ave. – It’s free to take a gander at the wide
array of art, but you also can hear free concerts on Sunday afternoons
• Olbrich Botanical Gardens – 3330 Atwood Avenue, Madison Stroll 16 acres of
outdoor gardens featuring stunning landscapes and Midwest-hardy plants. Visit the
tropics in the Bolz Conservatory, fi lled with exotic plants, fl owers, orchids, birds, and
a waterfall.

• State Street is unique and a fun adventure – This seven-block bustling

watch a movie, buy a vinyl record, eat authentic Indian food, shoe shop, and more!
Shopping
• Hilldale Mall – 702 N. Midvale Boulevard a partially closed in mall with unique
collection of stores, boutiques and restaurants West Towne Mall
• Monroe Street – A mile and a half of mostly locally-owned shops and restaurants,
located close to the University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium, Lake Wingra,
the free Henry Vilas Zoo, and Edgewood College and High School.

Wine & Spirits
• The Brandy Old Fashioned – The original Old Fashioned recipe would have
showcased the whiskey available in America in the 19th century, either Irish,
Bourbon or rye whiskey. In some regions, especially Wisconsin, brandy is substituted
for whiskey (sometimes called a Brandy Old Fashioned)
