Dairy West & Albertsons kick off Idaho Foodbank fundraiser

Dairy West and the Albertsons grocery chain plan kicked off their “Moo Bucks” campaign on June 1st in celebration of World Milk Day. The event is a fundraising drive for the Idaho Foodbank.

“Hullaba-Moo” is slated from noon to 3 p.m. at the Albertsons Market Street store that opened recently at 3499 E. Fairview Ave., Meridian, Idaho.

Dairy-focused classes, in-store sampling, prizes, games and photo opportunities with a calf are planned.

Chobani, Darigold, Ballard Family Dairy and Cheese and Girl Scouts are among the scheduled participants.

The event runs from June 1-15. The “Moo Bucks” campaign is a time when Albertsons customers can donate at check stands to help the food bank purchase and distribute dairy foods, and to provide milk vouchers to those in need.

“There’s a huge milk gap in our country,” Dairy West CEO Karianne Fallow said in a news release. “Feeding America reports that, on average, people served by food banks receive the equivalent of less than one gallon per person per year.”

Today, she said, 1 in 7 Americans relies on food banks.

“And here at home in one of the top agricultural-producing states in the country, more than 210,000 Idahoans — including nearly 7,000 children — are food-insecure,” she said.

The $5,000 that Dairy West and the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council raised in a separate campaign earlier this year helped provide 7,000 gallons of milk to people in need, said Morgan Wilson, chief development officer for the food bank.

Dairy West represents dairy families in Idaho and Utah and promotes the dairy industry and dairy products, according to its website.
