Badiola Atwood Koketa wins for second time in a row as National Grand Champion Cow at CONAFE’18

The Asturian farm Badiola Holstein sweeps in the 39th Spanish Holstein Show CONAFE’18 where Badiola Atwood Koketa triumphed for second time in a row as National Grand Champion Cow and it has also won the Young, Intermediate and Mature Cow prizes, Best Herd and Best Breeder.

Badiola Atwood Koketa, from the farm Badiola Holstein, won for second time in a row as National Grand Champion Cow at Spanish Holstein Show CONAFE 2018, the annual meeting for Holstein world in Spain that was held in Gijón (Asturias) last weekend. The National Grand Champion Cow Reserve was Llinde Ariel Jordan (Jordan x Gavor), from farm S.A.T Ceceño, while the winners of cow championships were: Badiola High Octane Elora (Octane x Atwood), as Young Cow Champion; Badiola Airlift Kenda (Airlift x Sid), as Intermediate Cow Champion; and Badiola Atwood Koketa (Atwood x Damion), as Mature Cow Champion. In this edition, finally 128 animals participated from 40 farms of five regions: Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia, Catalonia and Castilla-León. Among the participants, 21 cows are rated EX and 46 VG.

On Saturday also took place the XVIII National Showmanship CONAFE 2018, in which Avelino Souton was imposed as Senior Champion, and Abel Carballo as Junior Champion after the expertises valued how the handlers presented animals on the ring.
Calf and Heifer Championships and other awards Comas Novas Princes Delta (Delta x Carson), from Comas Novas / El Campgran (Catalonia), won as National Grand Champion Heifer, while in the Calf Championship the winner was Casa-Nova Sony MC (Solomon x Mccutchen), from Ganadería Carros.

Farm Badiola Holstein completed his triumphs this year with the titles of Best Herd and Best Breeder, followed in both cases by farm Casa Flora, awarded as Second Herd and Second Breeder. The best showmanships of the Spanish Holstein National Show were, in this order, Adrián Entrecanales, Agapito Fernández and Germán Fernández, all of them from Cantabria. The Best Autonomy Award went to Asturias, while the second best Autonomy was Cantabria.

The last edition of the Spanish Holstein Show has been organized by CONAFE (Spanish Holstein Confederation) with the collaboration of Asturiana de Control Lechero-Asociación Frisona (ASCOLAF) and under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Rural Development and Natural Resources of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, the City Council of Gijón, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Chamber of Commerce of Gijón, CLAS, Caja Rural de Gijón and Caja Rural de Asturias.

As usual since 2002, the Monographic Fair of the Field and the Agricultural, Livestock, Forestry and Fishing Industries of Asturias, AGROPEC, was the framework of the thirty-ninth edition of the Spanish Holstein Show, whose official judge was Javier Álvarez Lastra.
One more time, the celebration of the Spanish Holstein Show CONAFE 2018 was accompanied by the exhibition of different companies related to the livestock sector.

History of the CONAFE Spanish Holstein Show
In 1991, CONAFE took charge of the Spanish Holstein Show, which was organised by ANFE since 1974. Throughout 38 editions, three animals have achieved the highest award three times: Argomota Infanta Inspiration, as Grand Champion Heifer in 1989 and 1990 and as Grand Champion Cow in 1991; Pachecas James Gretta, Spring Grand Champion Cow in 2005 and Autumn Grand Champion Cow in 2005 and 2006; and Pacho Goldwyn Telva, Grand Champion Cow of CONAFE for the years 2011, 2013 and 2016. Asturias and Cantabria are the regions which more times have won the Spanish Holstein Championship, with eighteen victories and fifteen triumphs respectively. By farms, the Asturian farm Badiola Holstein is the one that has won the most awards, with eleven titles of National Grand Champion Cow and three titles of National Grand Champion Heifer.
