$8,700 Top at Eastern Elite Sale

The 2019 edition of the Eastern Elite Sale took place on Tuesday evening, September 17th at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA as part of the All-American Dairy Show week events.

The Jerseys paraded through the show ring earlier in the day and then took charge at the sale as the top three sellers were Jersey lots with show ring appeal!

Top seller on the night at $8,700 was Lot 59, the consignment of Arethusa Farm in Litchfield, CT –  a 1st choice female by a mutually agreeable sire out of Arethusa Response Vivid-ET EX-96%. The resulting calves will be due in September 2020 out of the many-time All-American and All-Canadian who was Supreme Champion at the Royal Winter Fair in 2014, and is a daughter of the all-time great Huronia Centurion Veronica EX-97 4E. The choice was purchased by Rodney & Linda Rankin, Dan & Kim Ceresna, and Philip Deist, Bulger, PA.

2nd high seller at $7,500 was Big-Guns Andreas Voodoo-ET, a March 2019 Andreas daughter of Big Guns Jamaica Vanilla EX-95%, All-American Aged Cow in 2016. Consigned by the Freebird-4 Syndicate of Troy, PA, Voodoo is a full sister to last year’s All-American Spring Yearling and National Junior Champion, Big Guns Andreas Virtue-ET. Voodoo placed 7th in the Spring Calf class earlier in the day and looked very promising for the rest of the fall shows. An added entry to the sale listed as Lot 90, she was purchased by Ike Cole and Lisa Schucker of Columbia Cross Roads, PA.

In the catalog as Lot 60, a 1st choice maternal sister to Voodoo followed up as third high seller at $7,400. Three VIP female pregnancies due in March 2020 out of Big Guns Jamaica Vanilla EX-95%, who has produced as many heifer winners and champions as any cow on the continent the past couple of years. The Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Champion at the show earlier in the day were both Vanilla daughters. Consigned by Madison Fisher of Newville, PA, the choice was purchased by Kyle Bearor of Des Moines, IA.

Lot 1 was the high-selling Holstein at $6,300 – Gold-Barbara Brocade-ET, a 10/17 Crush daughter due March 2020 to sexed Diamondback, out of Butz-Butler Gold Barbara-ET EX-95 96-MS, a three-time All-American in milking form. Brocade was consigned by Dr. Matt Iager of Boonsboro, MD and she was purchased by Ryan Krull of George, IA.

$5,300 was the final bid for Lot 4 – Apple-Pts Anicka-ET, a stylish 12/18 Artist daugther out of the legendary KHW Regiment Apple-Red-ET EX-96 4E. A potential 8th generation Excellent, Anicka is a red carrier and tested out at +3.56T. She was consigned by the Apple Partners of Lanark, IL and was purchased by Ben & Preston Rhodes of Lewistown, PA.

Overall sale average on 72 lots of live cattle, embryos and choices was $2,667. Chris Hill held the auctioneer’s gavel while Tim Abbott read pedigrees. Sale staff included David Lentz, Nick Raggi, Michael Heath, Tim Natzke, and Scott Umble. Ken Raney and Tracy Weller of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association clerked the sale, and online bidding was handled by Aaron Ray Tompkins of Cowbuyer.
