The Heart of America Expo proved again Brown Swiss are a big deal. Thursday’s feature was the very competitive Chili-Cook-off at noon. The day was complete with the fund raising “Fun Sale” generating $5,487 for the cause. Friday was sale day. Saturday was rise and shine with Showmanship beginning at 7:30 am. 144 head were presented from 11 states at the Southwest National Show.

The sale boasted 41 head and ended the day with sale average of $2354.87.

High seller Lot 25 at $5,000 was the Jr. 2 yr. Double W Richard Dona V86/86m @ 2-0. Her Harts Wunder dam is E91/91m “Cert” with 31,580m 294d. The buyer, Jr. member Brittany Jones, Veguita, New Mexico added her to the families’ 3,300 cow Holstein dairy. This Double W Dairy from Holyoke, CO consignment was 3rd in her class on Saturday.

Lot 7 Acclaimed C Jazzy ETV 3/19 brought $4,600. A Carter from Kruses Victor Jillette ET 2E92/92m. All Am Jr 2 yr 2014 who is an 8th generation Excellent. Consigned by Acclaimed Swiss of Epworth, IA, this fancy-cut calf was selected by the duo of Peter Vail and City Slickers, Englewood, FL.

Next in line at $4,100 was Lot 45 Overstreet DD Madella 3/19. This show-aged Daredevil calf has 2 VG dams. Consigned by Overstreet Dairy LLC. of Chillicothe, TX, she was picked out by Jr. member Hayden Haedge, Grandbury, TX.

A pair of very nice cows tied at $4,000. Lot 17 Spring Acres Carter Shanel E91/90m 33,300m @ 2/11 was consigned by Stephanie Bos, Billings, MO. Cleve Clark, Bo-Tex Dairy, TX was a sharp cow buyer as he ended up with the 1st place 5 yr plus Total Performance and Nasco Production winner with his purchase!

The other $4,000 cow was Lot 24 Double W Cartel Sayner Sr. 2yr. V85/85m @2-0. She had 1,021f @ 1-10 out and due in Dec. Her V85/86m Faust dam is a granddaughter of Bridge View Romancer Susann 2E92/94m. Double W Dairy, CO made her available to Kylie Osinga, TX.

The Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association was established in 1880, registers 10,000 animals per year and serves about 1,800 combined adult and junior members. All cattle in the registry descend from the initial importations of 25 bulls and 140 females from Switzerland, where the breed was developed around 4000 B.C. The world population of Brown Swiss is reported to be about 5 million, which ranks in the top two in world-wide population of dairy cattle.
