Citing an end to European dairy quotas and the continued Russian embargo of dairy products, Poland and the Czech Republic have requested an increased in the European Union EU) intervention price, according to Radio Poland.
The EU dairy index price in June is down 4.1% from May, and down 32% from June 2014. The intervention price is the price at which the EU must buy product at any amount offered. Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary also supported the request.
EU Commission of Agriculture Phil Hogan said raising the intervention price would send the wrong signal when there already is a surplus of milk.
