Ohio Holstein Association Hold Fall Tour and Open House 19 November

The Ohio Holstein Association will hold their Fall Tour and Open House on Saturday, November 19, 2016, beginning at 11:00 a.m.  

The Fall Tour will be hosted by Ack-Lee Registered Holsteins, 9256 TR 141, East Liberty, Ohio.   A meal will be held at Noon, with an agenda of activities to follow that will include guest speaker, Jeff Ziegler, Genomics Programs Manager at Select Sires.  He will be speaking about Select’s Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART), male and female lineups.  There will be a Judging Workshop for the juniors, all ages.   There will be free time to view the outstanding cows and facilities.  Plans are to televise the Ohio State/ Michigan State game depending on kickoff time and broadcast status.

The farm was established in the 1960’s by Bob and Kathy Ackley.  The multigenerational family operation now includes their son, Jay, his wife Kristy, their two sons Kyle and Kristopher, Kristy’s brother Brad Boots, in addition to other much valued hired help.  The farm has grown to 140 cows and 3,000 acres of cropland, owned and rented.  Crops grown include hay, wheat, corn and beans.  Maple syrup is produced in the spring.  The milking herd is housed in a barn constructed in 2010 that features free stalls, box stalls and a bedded pack.  Cows are milked in a double eight herringbone rapid exit parlor built in 2000.  Current herd average is 23,595m 4.5% 1069f 3.2% 754p and the latest herd classification BAA is 108.9.  The herd has garnered many show ring accolades including Premier Exhibitor at both the 2015 and 2016 Ohio State Fair Mideast National Summer Show.  In 2015 Ackleys won the National Holstein Futurity at the Ohio State Fair and in 2014 and 2015 exhibited the Grand Champion of the Ohio State Fair Junior Show.
