Master Breeder hat trick for Ferme Jacobs

This is the third title of master breeder prefix Jacobs is rated in January. This herd of more than 525 heads is owned by the Jacobs family since their arrival from Holland in 1951. In 1988 and 1998, they were honored by Holstein Canada for the same title.

For them, causing their success is mainly communication and passion. All decisions are not necessarily taken together, but always with the goal to advance the farm. Each is independent, but they know that if they need to make a decision more important, communication will be in place. The main shareholders of the company to work full time, John, who is responsible for the maintenance of buildings and crops, his wife Marian, who in turn is in charge of accounting and gives a hand in the barn where needed. Their eldest son, Yan, is in charge of managing the herd. Ysabel, the oldest of the two daughters of the family, take care of calves from birth to mating. She is also responsible for the organization of exhibitions. The last of the family, Laurie, is currently at Laval University where she is studying Agro economy. She is there as soon as she has time to help at shows or help with farm chores. John & Marian also have another son, Kevin, who runs his own business with his wife. Recently, they can also rely on the services of Frederic Fillon as contact person for the sale of embryos, mainly, as well as update their Facebook page and website, in which they try to be as pro -active as possible.

Lactations of 140 cows, there were a total of 33 EX and 30 VG 110 BP. The average production is to 10.865 kg with 3.8% fat and 3.2% for protein.

When thinking about breeding Jacobs, are cows such as Spirit Valsie Jacobs, Ex-92E 5 * you think. It has a lifetime production of 68.171 kg in 4 lactations and it was also noticed on the exhibition grounds, including in 2004, where she was All-Canadian in the class 4 years. One of her daughters, by Dundee, has also earned the title of All Canadian in 2008 when she won the senior year class 1 milk in Toronto. Tab Emma Jacobs, Ex-4E 13 * is one that has left its mark, whether with his lifetime production of 134 381 kg, which earned him one super-lactations 3 and 4 above, or with small girls-world known as Jacobs Goldwyn Emory, Ex-93 Stormatic Emmo and Jacobs, Ex-94E. Lindy Cotopierre Bertha, Ex-2E 25 * was a great buy for the company, because it is also a mainstay of livestock.

With so many animals, the field size is huge. Over 1000 acres of land are cultivated to feed the animals prefix Jacobs, but also those of Ty-D prefix, which is operated by the husband of Ysabel, Tyler Doiron and the joint Yan, Véronic Prémont. They have acquired the neighboring farm that now there two years.

Livestock is important to the firm, this is why a new building was erected in November for the elite of their livestock as well as for emerging calves. Also, they are particularly proud to be able to export more than 150 embryos per year. This is possible thanks to several IVF transfers made with the alliance Boviteq. They also receive many foreign visitors per year, which is always flattering.

C’est un troisième titre de maître éleveur que le préfixe Jacobs s’est vu attribuer en janvier dernier. Ce troupeau de plus de 525 têtes est la propriété de la Famille Jacobs depuis leur arrivée de la hollande en 1951. En 1988 et en 1998, ils ont été honorés par Holstein Canada pour le même titre.

Pour eux, ce qui amène leur succès est principalement la communication et la passion. Toutes les décisions ne sont pas nécessairement prises ensemble, mais toujours dans le but de faire avancer la ferme. Chacun est autonome, mais ils savent que s’ils ont besoin de prendre une décision plus importante, la communication va être en place. Les principaux actionnaires de l’entreprise y travail à temps plein, soit Jean, qui s’occupe de l’entretien des bâtiments ainsi que des cultures, sa femme Marian, qui quant à elle est en charge de la comptabilité et donne un bon coup de main à l’étable. Leur fils ainé, Yan, est en charge de la gestion du troupeau ainsi que de la partie alimentation. Ysabel, la plus vieille des deux filles de la famille, prends soin des veaux, de la naissance à la saillie. Elle voit également à l’organisation des expositions, que ce soit les expositions de compter ou de Madison. La dernière de la famille, Laurie, est présentement à l’Université Laval ou elle étudie en Agro économie. Elle est présente sitôt qu’elle en a le temps, pour les expositions ou encore aider aux tâches à la ferme. Jean & Marian ont également un autre fils, Kevin, qui exploite sa propre entreprise avec sa conjointe. Depuis peu, ils peuvent également compter sur les services de Frédéric Fillon à titre de personne contact pour la vente d’embryons, principalement, ainsi que pour mettre à jour leur page facebook et site internet, sur lesquels ils essayent d’être le plus pro-actif possible.

Des 140 vaches en lactations, ont y compte 33 EX, 110 TB et 30 BP. La moyenne en production se situe à 10,865 kg avec 3.8% de gras et 3.2% pour la protéine.

Lorsqu’on pense à l‘élevage Jacobs, ce sont à des vaches telles que Jacobs Spirit Valsie, Ex-92E 5* que l’on pense. Elle a une production à vie de 68,171 kg en 4 lactations et elle fut aussi remarquée sur les terrains d’exposition, notamment en 2004, année où elle fut Toute-Canadienne dans la classe 4 ans. Une de ses filles, par Dundee, s’est elle aussi méritée un titre de Toute Canadienne en 2008 alors qu’elle gagna la classe 1 an senior en lait à Toronto. Jacobs Tab Emma, Ex-4E 13* en est une autre qui a laissé sa trace, que ce soit avec sa production à vie de 134 381 kg, ce qui lui valut 1 super-3 et 4 lactations supérieures, ou encore avec ses petites-filles connues mondialement tels que Jacobs Goldwyn Emory, Ex-93 et Jacobs Stormatic Emmo, Ex-94E. Cotopierre Lindy Bertha, Ex-2E 25*, fut un excellent achat pour l’entreprise, car elle est elle aussi un des piliers de l’élevage.

Avec autant d’animaux, la superficie des champs est énorme. Plus de 1000 acres de terres sont cultivées afin de nourrir les animaux du préfixe Jacobs, mais également ceux du préfixe Ty-D, qui est exploité par le mari de Ysabel, Tyler Doiron, ainsi que la conjointe d’Yan, Véronic Prémont. Ces derniers ont fait l’acquisition de la ferme voisine il y a de ça maintenant deux ans.

L’élevage est primordial à la ferme, c’est donc pour cela qu’une nouvelle bâtisse a été érigée en novembre dernier pour l’élite de leur élevage ainsi que pour les veaux naissants. Aussi, ils sont particulièrement fiers de pouvoir exporter plus de 150 embryons par année. Cela est possible notamment grâce à plusieurs transferts IVF fait avec l’alliance Boviteq. Ils reçoivent également plusieurs visiteurs étrangers par année, ce qui est toujours flatteur.
