Famous UK herd Disperses

On Wednesday 16th January at Borderway, Carlisle one of best Holstein herds in the UK will be dispersed. The “Twinfields” herd has a rich history going back many years and its many successes can be contributed to the passion and enthusiasm of the Bainbridge family. Both Richard Senior and Junior have made many shrewd investments over the past twenty years many classy heifers with impeccable pedigrees have been introduced alongside the strong and dependable homebred families at Twinfields.

The sale comprises all the most recently calved cows and heifers of which most are classified Excellent and Very Good. There is 13 Excellent and 29 Very Goods this includes 12 Very Good two year olds, some very fresh heifers are not yet classified but have the potential to easily go VG such as Lot 58 Twinfields Final Cut Kitty a beautiful young heifer with an udder that flirts with perfection. They give lots of high quality milk and are currently averaging 37.5kgs.

This remarkable quality in both type and production has propelled the Twinfields herd into the lime light recently winning the 2012 Lancashire Holstein Herd Competition for the Medium Herd Section. In the same competition Twinfields also won the Best Group of Milking Heifers and Champion Cow with Twinfields Bambam Shana and placed 2nd in the Individual Heifer Class with Twinfields Ashlar Helena.

Cow families have been the foundation of the herd and key to its many accolades. The home bred families consistently impress with the Abbie, Jenny, Karen and Trixie lines. In the last decade new bloodlines have been introduced and include the Roxy, Kitty, Ivory, Elsa, Tiara and Sara. The best sires have been used for many generations with the current herd been sired by Ashlar, Shottle, Bolton, Final Cut, Million, Laudan, Buckeye, Dutham Ross, Baxter & Denzel.

One of the big attractions in this sale has to be the beautiful heifer calves sired by the latest and most sought after bulls currently in the market place. They include Observer, Demsey, Stanley Cup, Lavanguard, Windbrook, Fever & Spectrum.

The herd is vaccinated for IBR, BVD & Lepto the herd has also been tested clear of Johnes.

For animals bought for export to N.Ireland & Rep. of Ireland the Bainbridge family are more than happy to accommodate the cattle for the required 30 days after the sale.

This will be without doubt one of the top sales in 2013 with part 2 planned for early in the spring.
