Westgen is pleased to announce the addition of Erik Klugkist to its dairy sales team. Erik will take over sales management responsibilities for the retiring Finn Jakobsen, plus take on duties in the newly created position as Head of Genetics for the company.
Raised on a dairy farm in Alberta, Erik took over the family’s herd in 1994, milking around 50 purebred Holsteins under the prefix Beemer. In 1998 the herd was sold achieving the 2nd highest dispersal average for the year in Canada, 2nd only to the famed Hanoverhill herd. The farm was sold and another was bought close to Red Deer, Alberta.
In early 2002 Erik took employment at Morsan Farms where he was placed in charge of the breeding program, the day to day management of the show cows and heifers as well as assisting in the marketing of genetics worldwide. He travelled extensively with the show string all over Canada and the United States helping bring the herd to worldwide fame and recognition. In 2010 Erik accepted a sales role with a dairy genetics company where he cultured a strong following from the producers he served. Erik has been an official judge for 10 years, judging many shows in Western Canada as well as the Western United States plus a foreign assignment in Argentina.
Erik’s exceptional knowledge of cow families, genetics and genomics make him an ideal fit for his new combined role at Westgen. With his wife Carla and their 3 daughters, Brooke, 12, Siana 9 and Marisa, 6 the Klugkists make their home near Red Deer, Alberta.
