Show Features


The Livestock Event will provide all farmers with the opportunity to get away from the farm and take a fresh look at their business. It will also offer the best value training for their partners and stockman, as well as vet and nutritionist.

The event which will be officially opened on the first morning by agriculture minister, George Eustice MP, will host over 400 trade exhibitors and innovation will be to the forefront. More than 100 new products will be exhibited including over 40 launched at the event, along with a range of practical working demonstrations, essential not only for dairy farmers but also those farming beef and sheep.

Added to that will be information covering topics for feeding, health and welfare, housing, grants and more.

Access is easy. By car, drive straight off the M42 or M6 to free parking, or by train or plane, Birmingham International station and airport are less than 15 minutes undercover walk away. On arrival visitors will find all the indoor exhibitors under one roof, divided into 11 colour coded product zones to make stands easier to locate.

The National Dairy Show
Once again, RABDF is organising this show featuring six different cattle breeds with two days of judging. It includes the national show for Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and British Friesian breed societies and a comprehensive range of classes for Guernsey, Holstein and Jersey. Wednesday, commences with in milk heifers, followed by the cow classes, groups and pairs breed championships. Thursday, day two, will feature the maiden and in calf heifers and youngstock champions, culminating in the afternoon with parade of champions.

Beef
The beef ring will feature the British Charolais National Show on Wednesday afternoon, while 24 hours later, the Aberdeen Angus Junior Championship and South Devon Herd Book Society’s inaugural performance championship will be judged. The Charolais Young Breeders competition judging will take place on Thursday morning.

The National Lleyn Sheep Competition is returning and judged on Wednesday

Calf Rearing Demonstration
The event is staging the UK’s first ever live calf rearing demonstration. It will showcase all types of housing and feeding systems and feature live calves in igloos, conventional and specialist buildings including the Roundhouse. The feature will be complemented by a series of seminars delivered by leading calf specialists discussing the latest in housing, feeding and management systems

Live robotics for dairy
The award winning live robotic feeding and milking system demonstration is returning. Forty loose housed cows will be milked though a Lely Astronaut A4 system, whilst the Lely Vector automatic feeding system will ensure they have continual access to a self-mixed ration in the feed passage.
The demonstration was the most popular for over 50% of visitors at Livestock Event 2014.

The event is staging the UK’s first live robotic feeding demonstration for beef finishing cattle. This is specifically designed to show an alternative method of feeding with the Lely Vector, particularly where cattle are all housed in one location.
Forage Field Exhibition
A practical demonstration organised by BGS and RABDF offering professional technical advice and information on a comprehensive range of aspects which impact on forage production – not only grass but also other crops including clovers and Lucerne. Here is an opportunity to explore some of the latest R&D findings on soil management for improved crop growth and utilisation, maintaining a quality sward, grazing well and ensiling to minimise losses. Visitors can also check out the latest grass varieties and mixtures.

Focus on Feet
The Healthy Feet workshop is returning. Organised by RABDF and AHDB Dairy, it will focus on reducing lameness within the herd and feature technical sessions led by experts in the field. In addition, foot trimming demonstrations will be four times a day and feature the most popular techniques supported by independent commentary with additional information provided on locomotion.

The Barclays/RABDF Industry Forums
Barclays is hosting two topical forums which will provide the opportunity to hear industry influencers’ views and visitors will be able to have their say. Dairy will be in the spotlight on Wednesday, day one, speakers from RABDF, NFU, AHDB Dairy and FFA, whilst the following day is for beef and sheep farmers at the Livestock Farming Forum with speakers from TFA, NSA and NBA. The Forums which will be chaired by Barclays agricultural specialist, Oliver McEntyre, have been organised by RABDF and Barclays.

Three major areas – the RABDF Presentation Forum, the Farm Health Planning Seminars and Feed Science Forums. Each will be staged in their own open discussion area within the main halls.
RABDF Presentation Forum
The RABDF stand will feature comprehensive information and presentations. It will be hosting the International Lounge where UKTI will provide expertise on export markets, Trehane Scholars will present their reports, and NFYFC will present topics specifically aimed at young farmers and next generation. RABDF will also be hosting a session on the new Rural Development Programme Grants and the IAgrM’s Farm Planner of the Year Award presentation.

Two new initiatives will be launched: Women in Dairy and the Association of Robotic Milkers. Details of Entrepreneurs in Dairying 2015 will also be announced.

Farm Health Planning seminars
Farmers and their vets will be teaming up to address some of the most common issues found among dairy enterprises including the role of vets in targeted fertility programmes for the future, enhancing mastitis management on farm with a focus on the parlour, the challenges and benefits of calf rearing in tight spring calving herds and the importance of compliance in controlling BVD.

Finally, the off road 4 x 4 test drive
Visitors will have the opportunity to put the latest Isuzu 4x4s on The NEC’s 2km off-road test tracks featuring rough terrain and obstacles including bomb holes, humps, hills, articulation mounds and wet areas.
