Show Judges

National Holstein Show – Mick Gould

Mick farms alongside his wife, Katherine, at Grange Farm in Shropshire. The Woodmarsh prefix was registered in 1970 and among the first pedigree purchases was a Weeton heifer from the Dewdrop family and an Isobel from Hoohall. Today the herd is well established as one of the breeds most consistently high performers; it currently milks 350 head with a rolling herd average of just over 12,800kg. To date, the herd has produced 52 100 tonne plus cows and key cow families include Melody, Lyme, and Zandras. Woodmarsh was the first herd in the UK to send embryos back to Canada and continues to supply bulls to European herds as well as the Cogent and Genus studs.

Mick is a past Holstein UK board member, Shropshire club committee member and has sat on the National judges’ panel for many years. He has judged at every one of the Royal Shows including the very last English Royal Show at Stoneleigh. His international judging career includes the International Dairy Week in Australia and the Interbred Championship at the Sydney Royal as well as the Irish National Holstein Show.

National Ayrshire Show – Lisa Window-Walker

This year the Ayrshire Cattle Society of Great Britain and Ireland are delighted to announce the judge of their prestigious national show as Lisa Window-Walker. Lisa, from Bromsgrove in the West Midlands, has been a partner and owner of the World renowned Hunnington Ayrshire herd for the last 30 years along with her late father Chris Window. Lisa is assisted by the next generation of Windows, her nephew, Chris Window junior.

Lisa has been on the Ayrshire judge’s panel for 25 years and has judged throughout the UK and Ireland. Some of her highlights include the Royal Highland, Agriscot, Royal Yorkshire, Royal Norfolk, Royal Cornwall and Balmoral. Internationally Lisa has judged at the Sydney Royal in Australia, the New Zealand Dairy Event, and the Finland National Show.

National Brown Swiss Show – Dr Angelo Pozzatti

Dr Angelo Pozzatti is a veterinarian who has specialised in bull selection. Between 2004 and 2008, Angelo worked in Switzerland for the AI stud Swissgenetics, responsible for the Brown Swiss program and as area sales manager for many countries. He then went on to work as technical and commercial director of the AI Stud, Zorlesco in Italy before settling into this current position as the new Europe sire analyst for Semex Alliance. Here he is responsible for the Italian market for Swissgenetics.  Dr Angelo Pozzatti has officiated more than 280 shows in more than 11 countries, placing Brown Swiss cattle at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 2005, at the International Dairy Week in Australia in 2008, at the World Dairy Expo in 2009 and at the most important European shows (Verona, Cremona, Zug, Paris, Buchloe, Imst, Clermond Ferrand, Epinal and Lausanne).

Dairy Shorthorn Show – James Lamb

James Lambe travels from County Monaghan, Ireland to judge the Dairy Shorthorn classes. James milks 110 pedigree Dairy Shorthorns with his wife Joanne under the Ballytrain prefix on his 180-acre farm. James is the 3rd generation to farm at Ballytrain, making it the oldest Dairy Shorthorn herd in Ireland. Many new cow families have been purchased in recent years but it is the original families like Rose, Tulip and Bloom that are the main foundation of the herd. Based on a spring calving system, James believes that it is fertility that makes the Dairy Shorthorn the ideal breed for his production system.

Showing cattle has been a passion for the family for many years and with their hard work and dedication has come prestigious achievement such as having National Champion in Tullamore 2017 and the National Champion at the Emerald Expo in 2013. The highlight of James’ judging career so far was judging at the Royal Highland Show in 2017.

Guernsey Show – James Warren

James is the 5th generation of his family farming at Tredinney Farm, Penzance, just 5 miles from Lands’ End. The herd is currently just over 300 cows split equally between pedigree Guernsey’s, Jerseys and Holsteins and their milk is sold to local firm Rodda’s to make Cornish clotted cream.

The Tredinney Herd has enjoyed success showing at The Royal Cornwall Show for many years, winning Supreme Guernsey for 10 consecutive years and more recently claiming Overall Supreme Champion with a Guernsey cow for the first time in the history of the show. Another highlight for James was taking Champion, Reserve Champion and Honourable Mentation at the National Guernsey show in 2016.

James has judged Guernsey’s all around the world including The Royal Welsh, The Royal Yorkshire Show and The Royal Adelaide show in Australia.

Jersey Show – Anna Stable

Anna Stable joins the judging panel as Jersey Judge. Anna lives and farms with her husband Tom at Bolton Manor Farm, in Cumbria, alongside Tom’s parents Mike and Denise. Tom and Anna take responsibility for the day to day running of the farm, whilst Mike and Denise manage the on-farm Ice Cream Parlour, Cumbrian Cow. The herd consists of 270 cows with 45 Excellent (including 6 at Ex94 or higher) and 101 VG and yields around 9,500kg/cow/year. The family hope to grow the herd to 300 during the year having made significantinvestment in a new slurry store and sand bedded cubicle shed.

2017 was a victorious year for the Stable family winning Junior Champion and Supreme Champion at Westmorland Country Show with Boltonmanor Lady Coral and Boltonmanor Damion Sadie respectively. Sadie has also stood first at the Great Yorkshire Show for the past two years.

Anna has been fully qualified as a Jersey judge for 5 years and has cast her eye over many shows such as Penrith and Shropshire County Shows, Leek Show, The Dragon Jerseyfest, North Yorkshire County Show, as well as several showmanship competitions around the country. She is set to be a familiar face across the showing ring this year with judging responsibilities taking her to Balmoral Show in Ireland and the Holstein Showmanship classes at the Holstein UK All Breeds All Britain Show in October.
