The Sun Shone on Shropshire for a Record Breaking UK Dairy Day

UK Dairy Day 2016 has hit astonishing new heights. More than 7,740 visitors descended on the International Centre in Telford on Wednesday 14th September – this is an 8.847% increase on last year’s 7,112 visitors. Coupled with 171 cattle on-site and more than 300 dairy businesses exhibiting, this was the largest UK dairy Day to date – and everyone was talking about it with #ukdairyday even trending on Twitter well before lunchtime!

The Cattle Show was a major attraction with crowds of people piling around the main ring to catch a glimpse of the action. The show saw immaculate cattle from all breeds, Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn, Jersey and Holstein on parade – with live streaming continuously taking place on the UK Dairy Day website throughout the day. The full list of results can now be viewed online:  http://www.ukdairyday.co.uk/2016-show-results

Visitors also watched a visual depiction of the cows’ anatomy using paint by Scarsdale Vets, joined Tim Carter and David Rowe for live foot trimming and knife sharpening demonstrations – and networked amongst the diverse array of trade stands. ADF Milking picked up the award for best large stand on the day and Dairymaster claimed the small/ medium stand prize.

In the sharing knowledge zone farmers, students and industry associates engaged in stimulating seminars provoking discussion and debate. Seminar topics were wide ranging – from the cost for BVD, the right flooring for cow comfort through to agritech opportunities and calf gut health. The display of the 12 most innovative products launched in the last 12 months caught visitors’ attention. Dairymaster claimed most innovative with their MooMonitor+App, closely followed by INUI LED for the LED UFO-S Series High Bay Light. The judges also made a special mention to AHDB Dairy and their Inbreeding Checker.

Sue Cope, Event Director, commented on the shows’ success; “UK Dairy Day 2016 has been sensational; I thank everyone – visitors, exhibitors, sponsors, competitors, staff and helpers – together we have made an incredible event for the dairy sector. The UK dairy industry is a global leader and this was clearly displayed at UK Dairy Day with the wealth of technology, equipment, ideas and innovations that were on display – as well as the high standard of cattle. Visitor numbers were up, cattle entries were up and so too were spirits as people networked, chatted and did business.”

Sue adds; “UK Dairy Day has received positive growth every year and attracts dairy businesses and farmers from all over the UK – as well as having a strong international following. Holstein UK and the UK Dairy Day team have worked extremely hard to develop this fantastic event for the dairy industry – and we’re committed to delivering this stand alone event in Shropshire – one of the leading dairy producing counties in the UK. Thank you to everyone who supported us this year; make sure Wednesday 13th September 2017 is already free in your diary and we hope to welcome you all back next year.”

Holstein UK Commits to the future of UK Dairy Day

Holstein UK has secured the future of the UK’s premier dairy event until 2020 by renewing its contract with The International Centre in Telford for the annual September Dairy focused event.

The event now in its 3rd year has been boosted further by an increase in trade stand bookings and interest from the industry.  In response to the challenges currently facing the industry UK Dairy Day have made important changes for the 2016 event to support farmers by offering free visitor entry, car parking and free entry for show cattle.

Hannah Williams, UK Dairy Day Event Manager; “The industry needs support and a platform to work together to share knowledge, discuss plans and seek support for future decision making.  What UK Dairy Day offers is an industry focussed platform for this and by securing dates up to 2020 we are demonstrating our commitment to the future of dairy farming.”

The event will continue to be held at the International Centre in Telford, Shropshire which provides an excellent central location with the venue offering a great environment and atmosphere.  Working closely with Southwater Event Group, owners of the venue and three hotels, UK Dairy Day are continually reviewing layout to ensure space is maximised to include all relevant businesses related to the industry.

Cattle Show partnership affords dairy farmers free entry to all cattle classes at UK Dairy Day

For the first time in its 3-year history, dairy farmers across the UK can show their cattle free of charge in all classes at UK Dairy Day 2016 thanks to a partnership between the show and the UK’s largest agricultural purchasing group, Anglia Farmers Limited.

The Cattle Show at UK Dairy Day is one of the main attractions with a display of some of the finest breeds – including classes for Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn, Jersey and The National Holstein Show. With many dairy farmers facing challenging times and price cuts, UK Dairy Day and Anglia Farmers want to encourage optimism and competitive spirit by inviting as many cattle breeders to get involved in what is the UK’s leading cattle show – which will take place in the main ring at UK Dairy Day on Wednesday 14th September 2016.

With support of Anglia Farmers, who are sponsoring the infrastructure of the cattle show this year, anyone who wishes to enter the classes can do so without having to part with any money – and this year total prize money reaches an impressive £18,000.

Lynden Bustard, Cattle Show Manager and Chief Steward, commented; “When UK Dairy Day launched three years ago it was our aspiration to host the largest show of dairy cattle in the UK – to have achieved this in such a short period of time is outstanding and something that the whole dairy sector should celebrate.

Lynden continued: “This year we have a fine line up of knowledgeable and professional judges who have a passion for their breeds – partnered with free entry, we are confident that we will stage a show that features the most immaculate cattle in the UK.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Anglia Farmers on behalf of the dairy industry for their support which has enabled free entry for all cattle being showed,” added Lynden.

Clarke Willis, Chief Executive of Anglia Farmers Limited, said: “Anglia Farmers and our subsidiary FarmBuyer are committed to supporting dairy farmers across the UK. Our support of the cattle infrastructure at UK Dairy Day gives farmers the chance to enter their finest cattle into the shows free of charge – saving money on entry fees. We hope our gesture greatly benefits dairy farmers to join in the spirit of UK Dairy Day and make it the best show on record.”

If you would like to parade your finest cattle in the main ring, please do not miss the opportunity – contact UK Dairy Day by calling 01923 695 225.

Celebrating Innovation in the Dairy Sector UK Dairy Day - New Product Competition 2016

Dairy Day – New Product Competition 2016

Has your business launched a new product since the 17th September 2015 – could it claim best new product for the dairy industry? Innovation, new ideas and technological advancement runs right through the dairy supply chain from multinational companies to unique individuals. UK Dairy Day recognises the diversity of products on the market, and aims to highlight the most innovative and progressive ideas and techniques with its New Product Competition.

New Product Competition – entry open

The New Product Zone was the brainchild of the 2015 show – and was a dedicated area allowing UK Dairy Day exhibitors and sponsors the opportunity to showcase new products. This year’s New Product Competition is open to exhibitors who have booked trade stand space at the 2016 event or are sponsoring the event. Entries will only be accepted for new products launched into the market since last year’s UK Dairy Day from 17 September 2015.

The judging panel of dairy industry specialists, farming media and dairy farmers will shortlist 10 finalists from all entries.  On the day of the show a different panel will judge the finalist’s new products and the winner and highly commended award will be presented during the afternoon. Last years’ Top 10 included a diverse selection from FeedScreed by Progiene, Glyco-Buf by UFAC, SILOSTop Bale Wrap File by Silotop to NWF Ultra Life Milk Powder by NWF Agriculture. Crowned as the winner was GEA Farm Technologies with DairyProQ.

Book your trade stand now before deadline date

Dairy related businesses are now being encouraged to book their trade stands before the closing date on 30th April 2016. After success of last year’s event stand space has been selling extremely quickly – there remains limited space externally and within the concourse area within the International Centre, Telford.

This year farming charities are being offered free exhibition space within the Learning and Development Zone.

Sue Cope, Event Director commented; “Linked to the theme ‘Sharing Knowledge’ UK Dairy Day will have a dedicated ‘New Product Zone’ giving exhibitors the opportunity to showcase new products launched since 17th September 2015. Any type of product can be entered as long as it demonstrates innovation and evidence of enhancing dairy performance and productivity. With less than one month to go until the closing date for trade stand applications, we’re encouraging businesses to take the opportunity to have a presence at the UK’s leading event for the dairy sector.”
