European Championship Show 2016

All-European Championship 2016: a resounding success!

During the 3 days of exhibition, the European Championship 2016 welcomed 25,262 visitors from all over Europe and North America, coming to support the 17 countries represented by their best Holstein and Red Holstein cows.

A spectacular ring, and a well thought agricultural fair

Host a show in a place designed for night use, the bet was not won in advance. And if the 181 cows have been marching in this open-air theater on Friday and Saturday, several days of work were necessary to transform this place into one of the most beautiful rings in Europe.

This jewel of unusual dimensions has been worked in order to recognize the outstanding expertise of nations in competition; judged by Markus MOCK (DE) for Holstein and Jaume Serrabassa VILA (ES) for Red Holstein.

The 49 Red Holstein and 132 Holstein cows were distributed in the halls of Colmar’s Exhibition Centre. This well thought distribution of the 133 commercial exhibitors, where men, cows and stands cohabited creates a pleasant atmosphere. Cows were completed by elegant heifers, selected by the French companies to organize the Showmanship, the 42 lots for sale, restaurants, etc.

Keystone of this success: human collaboration. Teams of Club Holstein 68, Eurogénétique, Prim’Holstein France, volunteers from Alsace, exhibition park of Colmar, city of Colmar, Alsace, Region Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine,  Aquatic Show International company (water fountains) and Weber Video, have all worked in the same direction to provide the best show conditions to European breeders.

3 countries gain international recognition: Ireland, Switzerland and France

Let’s start with Ireland, since the remarkable work of Paul MURPHY (Junior) and Thomas NEVILLE (Senior), each winning their category during the Showmanship, allowed it to be sacred as Best country in the Young Holstein Breeders Showmanship.

Switzerland then which realizes an excellent performance on Friday in Red Holstein. The Red-Suard Jordan IRENE (Ja-Bob JORDAN x Stookey Elm Park Sayso) property of Schrago Brothers, won the Senior Championship and the title of Grand Champion Red Holstein. The Helvetic country renews its 2013 performance by winning the Red Holstein country group price ahead of France and Italy tied. The next day, Saturday, June 18, Switzerland also confirmed its high genetic level in Holstein with GALYS-VRAY (Maple-Downs-I GW ATWOOD x Erbacres DAMION) – Junker, Staub & AL.BE.RO and CPP PANDORA Aftershock (Ms Sht Atlees AFTERSHOCK x SEAVER REW) – Comex Currat-Papal-Piller. They also win the most number of sections on both competition days.

Finally, France can be proud of the quality of its Holstein and Red Holstein breeding. In Red Holstein, she won the Junior Championship with Du Louvion HAWAI (Tiger-Lily LADD P x Riverdane RED RED AND ADVENTURE) owned by EARL Lepoint (59). Then on Saturday in Holstein, the Intermediate championship is won brilliantly by HELINE (Domicole Chelios x UMANOIR) – Mr. Patrick Rabin & AL.BE.RO (56). Note that the Grand Champion and Reserve of this show were also born in France, in the same farm: GAEC Vray Holstein (44). A great reward for Mr. and Mrs. BICHON which have been applaud by the 7 500 spectators. Finally, thanks to the excellent overall level of animals and homogeneity of its country group, France won the title of European Champion 2016 in Holstein.

Next edition in 2019 in Libramont (Belgium)

A few minutes before the coronation of France, Saturday, June 18, the relay of the European Confrontation was given to Belgium. The co-directors of the European Championship 2016 Thomas PRINZ and Bruno BECHET handed the flag of the EHRC (symbol of the event) to Patrick MAYERES (director of the association of Belgian breeding – AWE) and Natacha PERAT (Director of the Libramont Fair). The next edition will therefore be held on 12 and 13 April 2019, in Belgium, as part of the Libramont Fair.
