The 29th edition of the Black & White sale attracted a large crowd of buyers from across the UK and Ireland.  Despite the apocalyptic weather conditions with many roads and bridges closed due to flooding and high winds trade topped at 9,000gns with and overall average of £3811.

For the second consecutive year a daughter of Val-Bisson Doorman topped the trade.  Knowlesmere Doorman Abrakadazzle sold for 9,000gns to Scot Forsyth, Baltier Farm, Newton Stewart.   This big league show heifer is a daughter of Knowlesmere Goldwyn Abrakaboom VG87 2yr who placed 1st Jnr. Two Year old at UK Dairy Day in September.  This is the first heifer to sell from this cow family in Europe.

The Erle cow family has produced many legendary animals over the years and still holds the breed record for a cow sold at public auction.  The Haffey family from Northern Ireland sold five wonderful heifers topping at 8,500gns for Glasson Atwood JF Erle who was purchased by John and Gordan Lyle Nether Pratis Farm, Fife.  The super stylish black heifer was sired by Atwood and granddaughter of the record breaking Field of Dreams Formation Erle EX95.

Milking heifers averaged £4646 and topped at 8,000gns for I-Cow Facebook Emilia consigned by Isaac & Luke Lancaster Horton Grange Farm, Gisburn.  Emilia was a daughter of Facebook with a massive UK and North American index.  She had a PLI+£498 and a GTPI+2315 and sold with over €4000 in embryo contracts.  She was purchased by Elite Street Genetics Rep. of Ireland.

Also selling for 8,000gns was Eastford Armani Tabitha Red consigned by Eastford Holsteins a syndicate of the Yates and Lawrie families.  She was a daughter of Dilandy Debonair Tabitha Red EX92 was last year’s Supreme Champion at the Royal Highland Show and Super Cow at Agriscot in 2012.  The cow family traces back to Luck E in the USA.

Gracing the front cover of this year’s catalogue was Baldonnel Goldie Larissa EX93 owned by Cyril Dowling and Tadgh Burke Dublin, Rep. of Ireland.  She had been Grand Champion at the Irish National Show in Millstreet and is a member of the Raveswell Lydia cow family that also bred legendary cows such as Rockymountain Talent Licorice, Winter Goldwyn Lotto and Idee Lustre.  Her amazing Doorman daughter had been one of the stars in the sale and sold for 7,000gns to John Moore Rep. of Ireland.

ersey heifers averaged £3150 and topped at 3,500gns for Huddlesford I-Cow Blonde consigned by Andy Cope and Isaac Lancaster.  Sired by Bluegrass Lord Actionman and bred from Bluegrass Remakes Blackest Blonde VG89 who was the 2013 Grand Champion at both the Great Yorkshire Show and the Dairy Event.  She now joins the herd of A Stonehouse Yorkshire.

Commenting after the sale auctioneer Glyn Lucas from Harrison & Hetherington said “I would like to thank the consignors and buyers for their support and look forward to our landmark 30th sale in 2016.  I would like to wish everyone much success with their animals and I’m looking forward to welcoming many of them back in March for our fifth UK Dairy Expo”.
