Border and Lakeland Club Show and Sale 2014

The July Border & Lakeland show and sale had another quality consignment of freshly calved heifers and cows on offer from a number of the leading herds in the North of England and Scotland. It is fair to say that it was a day for the buyers to enjoy with the trade dropping by £237 on the month to average £1698 however top quality heifers again were in demand with the trade topping at 3,400gns.

The event was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and the show was judged by Mr Duncan Horsley owner of the Woodcatt herd near Penrith. His overall Champion went to Snow Minnie consigned by G&M Wilson, Appleby, selling for 3,400gns to the judge. She was sired by Denmire Murphy and bred from a Very Good 89 dam.

The Reserve Champion went to Bowberhill Iota Papoose consigned by WM Hutchinson & Son, Kirby Stephen she sold for 1,800gns to A. McCamley, Ochiltree. This deep ribbed heifer was sired by Regancrest Iota and bred from a Good Plus Shottle followed by a further 13 generations of Excellent or Very Good cows.

Gillette Windbrook daughters are being admired by milk producers at the moment and it was one of his daughters that sold for 2,900gns to an undisclosed buyer. She was Evening Windbrook Primrose GP83 bred from a EX94 dam with over 70ton, this beautiful heifer was consigned by Evening Hill Farms. They also sold a powerful Magor Baroque Allen heifer from the same family for 2,200gns going to RJ Raven, Wigton.
