The Ontario Spring Invitational Sale realized an outstanding average of $5821 on 54 lots when held on the evening of March 25th at the Western Agriplex in London, Ont., the night before the Ontario Spring Discovery Show. Hanover Hill Sales & Service was the sale manager.

Lot number 1 in the catalogue and commanding the top bid of $31,000 cast by Misty Spring Holsteins, Little Britain, Ont., was Claynook Tori Goldwyn (VG-87), the 3-year-old “Goldwyn” who completes six generations of Very Good in the Claynook Opal Aerostar (VG-87-20*) family. Consigned by Phoenix Bros., Greenbank, Ont., and Clarkvalley Holsteins, Woodville, Ont., Tori was number 49 on the January 2009 LPI Cow List with her +3436 LPI and +17 type index. Second junior 2-year-old at last year’s Ontario Summer Show, she made 13,068 kg milk, 4.2% fat, 3.4% protein (295-332-307) in her first lactation.

Sherona-Hill-I KKA Red Clover, the fancy “Advent” who was first junior calf at last year’s Royal Winter Fair Red & White Show, sold for $26,000 to Richard Green, Middletown, Del., to dissolve the partnership he had on this prize winner with Barclay Phoenix, Uxbridge, Ont., and Sebastien Dion, Pintendre, Que. Clover is from a Very Good-88-USA “September Storm” dam who was All-American Red & White senior yearling in 2007 and her grandam is Yursden Kite Caramac-Red (Ex-92-USA), a two-time All-American Red & White who was grand champion at the Red & White Show at World Dairy Expo in 2006.

Peter Vail of New York paid $16,000 to Hanover Hill Holsteins, Port Perry, Ont., for the first choice of a December 2008 Fradon Redliner (VG) heifer calf from KHW Regiment Ariel-Red-ET (VG-89), the “Regiment” who is a full sister to  KHW Regiment Apple-Red-ET (Ex-92-USA), the 2006 All-American junior 2-year-old who sold for $1 million last year. Ariel is backed by six generations of Excellent dams.

Brenland Farms, Millbank, Ont., paid $14,000 for the first choice of a “Mac” heifer calf due to be born in September from Misty Springs Shottle Sizzline (VG-88-USA), one of the high indexing “Shottles” from the Splendor Family. This consignment came from Mark Butz, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mike & Julie Duckett, Rudolph, Wis. Sizzline is a full sister to Canada’s number one LPI cow, Misty Springs Shottle Silk (VG-88).
