A truly astounding Jersey sale in Australia started the month of March off with a big bang! The Kuhne families of the long-established and world-renowned Bushlea Jersey stud in the Gippsland region hosted their latest sale in a strong of very successful ones on March 3rd.
66 lots were sold and every single one of them was out of an Excellent dam who had attained the elite classification score of 90% or higher! Results were overwhelming as the sterling average of $3943 represented the second highest single vendor average for the Jersey breed in history and the best result for such sales in 26 years since the existing record was set! Brian Leslie of Dairy Livestock Services, leading sales manager and auctioneer in Australia, remarked that the historic average of the sale is “Even more amazing when we consider the terrible recent bush fires in the area, the milk price drop of near 30% in recent times and the continuing drought!”
There was joy to be found for everyone in the results as the sale was certainly steady with a top of $12,000 and an average very close to $4,000. What a grand day it was for Canadian Jersey genetics, as 19 head sired by Canadian sires averaged $5,510 which is 40% than the already sky-high sale average!
Five progeny of Pine Haven Senior averaged $8510. This sire is the number two LPI sire in Canada; is a star of the Semex Alliance line-up and was bred by the Thompson family of Pine Haven Farm, Oxford, Nova Scotia. Two Senior progeny fetched $10,300 each. Both of these August 2008 born animals were Embryo transfer progeny resulting from importation of frozen embryos from Canada. Their dam, Avonlea Renaissance Kenedy is an Ex-94-2E daughter of Hollylane Reniassance from the Rosel Sires line-up. Kenedy, who was bred by Avonlea Genetics Inc., Brighton, Ontario is a twice All Canadian, twice Reserve All Canadian winner who is from the Kitty family at Avonlea and is completing a five year old lactation with projected 305 day performance of 8272, 497, 6.0% 305 3.7%. Kenedy has been owned by Greg Mortson, Lorne Ella and Ty Wingert of Oro-Medonte, Ontario since July 2006.
Eleven progeny of Semex sire Bridon Remake Comerica attracted a nice average of $4927. Included in this grouping was a $10,000 heifer from the highly-respected Fernleaf family who sold now has Avonlea Genetics Inc. listed as an owner on her registration certificate. Comerica was bred by the Sayles family of Bridon Farms near Paris, Ontario. Daughters of two other Semex sires Valleystream Julian and Valleystream Joe 7S were among the 19 Canadian-sired head who averaged over $5500.
Brian Leslie reports that the sale was an “incredible success with an amazingly high crowd and buyers from all but one state in the nation! Jersey Canada congratulates everyone involved! Interest in the Jersey breed is sky-rocketing around the globe, and this great sale for the talented Kuhne family proves the point. Canadian Jersey owners are pleased to be able to contribute to the breed’s renaissance and continued forging ahead.
