The 2009 All-Western Competition had 108 entries submitted which included 9 4-H, 14 Jerseys and 83 Holstein entries.
Cowsmopolitan’s All-Western competition is comprised of nominations by the owner and or/exhibitor of any animal which places first, second
or third in 2009 at one of the All-Western designated shows. This year’s list of shows included North Okanagan Spring Show (HO), National
Convention BC (HO), Vancouver Island (HO) and Chilliwack Exhibition (HO & JE) for BC, Calgary Dairy Classic (HO), Olds Fair (JE & HO),Westerner
Championship (HO & JE) for Alberta, Western Canadian Livestock Expo (HO & JE) for Saskatchewan, Eastern Manitoba Club Spring (HO), Landmark
Feeds Summer Classic (HO) and Manitoba Dairy Expo (HO) for Manitoba. Additional shows that will carry weight for 4-H entries include: Western
Canadian Classic, Provincial 4-H Shows and Club Achievement Days.
A panel of three Judges, Jeff West (Landmark Feeds), Callum McKinven (National Convention BC) and Bloyce Thompson (Calgary Dairy Classic)
determined the top 6 nominees for all the classes with the exception of the Junior, Intermediate and Senior calves, Summer, Intermediate and
Senior Yearlings, Junior 2 Year Old and Senior 3 Year Old classes who had 6 entries or less.
The remainder of the judges, Brent Carmicheal (EMHC), Ridley Wikkerink (North Okanagan), Charles Menard (Westerner), Dan Doner (Olds Fair &
Vancouver Island), Gerald Coughlin (WCLE & WCC), Reed Stransky (Manitoba Dairy Expo) and Angela Hamming (Chilliwack) joined the nominating
committee in determining the winners of the All-Western Competition published in this issue.
In the Holstein division the top three spots were dominated by R&F Livestock Inc., and Chilliwack Cattle with ten winners followed by Morsan
Farms at six. Out of the 108 Holstein entries 14 were nominated All-Canadian or All-American while in the Jersey Division 2 out of the 14 laid stake
to this claim. Thanks to everyone who competed in this year’s All-Western Competition!
