WestGen Celebrates Grand Opening In Abbotsford
August 18, 2016

On August 16, Westgen welcomed more than 400 guests to celebrate the completion of phase 1 of their new facility in Abbotsford, BC.

Surrounded by the corn fields the Fraser Valley is famous for, a diverse crowd of political officials, Abbotsford’s business community and dairy producers all seized the opportunity to tour the spectacular new building which will now be the hub of genetics for Western Canada.

Master of Ceremonies Paul Meyer led the formal program that featured speeches by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of BC;  the Honourable Norm Letnick, Provincial Minister of Agriculture; Mayor Jack Froese of The Township of Langley;  Mayor Henry Braun of the City of Abbotsford;  Tony DeGroot, President of WestGen and Chris Parry, CEO WestGen.

Abbotsford is the new heart of the BC dairy industry and is an ideal location from which to serve our customers in Western Canada. This building was designed not only as a more efficient office, but also as a meeting space for our members and owners to use for generations to come. WestGen is a farmer-owned organization, and this is their building,” said WestGen CEO, Chris Parry.

With Phase One of WestGen’s move complete, the company is eagerly planning for Phase Two, which will feature the building of the new barns and laboratory.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, lunch was served and the impressive building was open to tour, which featured a trade show area comprised of business partners in the dairy industry.

WestGen has been in business for 72 years and is Western Canada’s Leader in Genetics and Reproduction. Their new building will serve as a home for both their members, and their growing subsidiary companies: Cryogen Liquid Nitrogen Solutions and (after the completion of Phase 2) Boviteq West.
