UDV Excited To Welcome Loans For NDP Suppliers
December 8, 2016

Farmers affected by the retrospective price cuts implemented by collapsed milk processor National Dairy Products are now eligible for the Federal Government’s dairy assistance package after extensive lobbying by the United Dairyfarmers of Victoria.

UDV President Adam Jenkins praised the government for extending the package to include NDP suppliers in addition to Murray Goulburn and Fonterra.

“We’re pleased to see the government acknowledge the stress the milk crisis has put on farmers by extending the assistance package,” he said.

“The UDV has worked hard by negotiating with Minister Joyce to secure this outcome.

“We want to support farmers affected by the milk crisis and the federal package goes a long way to helping.”

The $579 million dairy assistance package includes:

$555 million in Dairy Recovery Concessional Loans;
$2 million to establish a commodity milk price index;
$900,000 for additional Rural Financial Counsellors;
$900,000 for Dairy Australia’s Tactics for Tight Times program;
18 more Department of Human Services employees to help fast track processing of Farm Household Allowance claims;
Appointment of a Department of Human Services Dairy Industry Liaison Officer; and
Redirection of two Department of Human Services Mobile Service Centres to dairy regions.
Nearly $60 million has so far been approved to more than 100 farms across Australia.
