Obituary for Indiana Jersey Breeder Dorotha White

Everyone at Cowsmopolitan extends our most sincere sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Indiana Jersey breeder Dorotha White, who passed away on July 3rd.
Indiana Jersey Breeder Dorotha WhiteDorotha Louise Hoover White was born on the 27th of December, 1916 to parents Guy D. Hoover and Lessie Campbell Hoover. Mrs. White attended New Lisbon High School and graduated in 1934. After graduation, she attended the Dayton Conservatory of Music and studied piano, organ, and accordion. She taught piano and was a concert pianist for the Wurlitzer Company of Dayton, OH, and continued to give private piano lessons in New Castle for many years after her marriage. She married Robert K. White in December of 1938 at the New Lisbon Christian Church. Together they established a dairy farm of registered Jersey cattle on Messick Road in New Castle, and the farm is still in operation today.

Mrs. White was a life member of the New Lisbon Christian Church, a life member of the Henry County Historical Society, a grey lady at the Henry County Memorial Hospital, a founding member of the Henry County Saddle Club with her husband Robert, a 55-year Charter Member of the Live & Learn Club, and a member of the Indiana Jersey Cattle Club, the Brown Road Club, the Lenba Club of Henry County, the P.E.O. – Chapter AD, and the Altruistic Literary Club. She played her musical instruments well into her nineties and milked cattle past her 94th birthday. Many friends will remember her passions for family, fellowship, music, and farming.

Mrs. White was also active in politics and was a lifelong member of the Republican Party. She served on the Henry County Council, including in the role of Council President, and retired from politics at the age of 90. She was a member of the Henry County GOP Club and a longtime donor to the Republican National Committee.

Mrs. White was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert; her parents; a brother, Delbert (Virginia) Hoover; and a sister, Betty Ann (Donald) Moore. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Sharon) White and David (Susanne) White; her grandchildren Bradley (Deena) White, John (Susan) White, Amy (Jim) Byrum, and Christina (David) Whitesell; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mark Lomison officiating. Mrs. White will be laid to rest with her husband at Hopewell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Lisbon Christian Church youth ministries.
