North Carolina Legislature Overrides Gubernatorial Veto of Ag-Gag Law
June 6, 2015

After North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory’s veto of the state’s so-called “ag-gag” law, the state legislature reached the required consensus to over-ride the veto. The new law, which becomes effective June 10th,  will allow employers to sue employees who secretly photograph or take videos of workplace activities for  punitive damages, up to $5,000 per day, in addition to compensation for actual damages.

The state legislature pushed through their support for the bill despite a reported $50,000 television ad campaign by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) aimed at defeating the bill.
