The New York Holstein Association is seeking a highly motivated person with in depth knowledge of Registered Holsteins and dairy industry, excellent p.r. and communication skills. This position will report to the Executive Committee, the Executive Manager (EM) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the New York State Holstein Association staff, programs, and execution of its mission. The Executive Manager must work closely with regional and local associations, Senior and Junior members, lead core programs, manage operations, and execute business plans.


  • Engage and support a strong Executive Committee relationship. Provide strategic direction for ongoing local and state operations.
  • Lead overall execution and ensure ongoing State program excellence (State Convention, Picnic and Fair, Harvest and Carousel Sale, Junior Events, and various other NY State events)
  • Develop program evaluation, drive consistent quality, and ensure strong financial success
  • Actively engage and energize New York State Holstein Association, Senior and Junior members, Board of Directors, Executive Committee and county associations.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications, and public relations across the state.
  • Proactively communicate with State membership and EC.
  • Leverage social media and maintain NY State Holstein Association web site.
  • Lead and coach NY State Holstein personnel, manage day to day operations, set priorities, fulfill hiring needs, complete performance evaluations, etc.
  • Negotiate and execute all contracts on behalf of NY State Holstein Association. Ensure proper risk management and insurance coverage for all events etc.
  • Drive animal sale selection process for the three major New York State events.
  • Partner and engage with Junior Holstein Members and clubs.

    All candidates must have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • Strong working knowledge and preferred previous work experience within the Holstein industry
  • Proven track record of effectively leading and executing programs
  • Strong organizational skills, and basic computer skills, database etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator
  • Ability to coach staff, manage teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with Executive Committees and the ability to cultivate existing committee and board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, and public relations skills
  • Ability to engage and work effectively in collaboration with Holstein Club Members
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed, and work in NY State Office located in Ithaca, NY
  • Strong knowledge of pedigrees, for animal identification in NY State sales
