Feithy wins the UK Premier Herds Competition

Welsh breeders, Eifion, Mary, Wyn & Rhys Jones secured the title of the Holstein UK Premier Herd for 2014. Milking 190 head, with 72 Excellent, 95 VG and 20 GP 2 year oldsManaged on a strictly commercial basis, Feithy first had to compete against stiff competition from other great herds in Wales, before being Crowned National winners. The competition was judged by previous recipients of the award Bill Nadin & Yasmin Bradbury of the Sterndale and Peak herds who won the title in 2013.

The Feithy herd won their Master Breeder award in 2013, and currently has a herd average of 10,600kgs 4.54%fat and 3.25%protein.

Runner up in the Premier herds competition, for the second successive year was Andrew Birkle’s Whinchat herd, which had previously won the Eastern region. Andrew milks 240 cows, along with a 2000 head pig unit, the milking herd achieve a 10,200kg herd average at 3.8%fat and 3.15%protein.
