The joint venture between Swiss breeders Ruegruet Holsteins and GS Alliance proved to be a huge success, as their first On-Line embryo sale reached a high price of 2000 CHF/embryo (CAN$2160, £1380) during this week’s Swiss Expo in Lausanne. The vast majority of bids were placed through the internet at www.ruegruet.com , and attracted interest from all over Europe, but resulted in the majority of embryos staying in Switzerland.
Realising the highest price were Brunner Mr Top embryos from Decrausaz Iron O’Kalibra EX-94, a Red Carrier from the same family as Dudoc Mr Burns and Granduc Tribute. Having attracted huge interest throughout the week, and tipped as a favourite to win the coveted show title, O’Kalibra didn’t disappoint securing both the Supreme Champion award and Best Udder in show for owners GS Alliance and Pat Conroy from the US.
Embryos by KHW Elm Park Acme from Grands Bois Rustler Ottawa EX-92 attracted the next highest bid when they sold for 1800 CHF (CAN$ 1940, £1240), last year Ottawa had stood Reserve Champion Red and White in Lausanne, and is widely regarded as one of the best Red and White show cows in Europe.
