Recognised as one of the top European sales in the Holstein Calendar, the Tulip sale once again proved a tremendous success.
Attracting buyers from all over Europe, consignments sold to seven different countries, including Denmark, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland and Spain.
Topping the sale at €41,000 (CAN$55,900) was Lakeside Snowman Paya (GTPI +2396 PTAT +3.06) consigned by Dutch breeders Andre and Willeke van Vliet.
Sired by the #1 TPI bull Flevo Genetics Snowman, and from the Golden Oaks Mark Prudence family, this calf typified a complete package: High genomics, Great type and a world class pedigree. Loaded with bull and embryo contracts, she attracted fierce bidding before the hammer finally fell to Ponderosa Holsteins, Spain.
Selling at €19,000 (CAN$25,900) was Apina Isabella (GTPI +2407) the highest GTPI calf in the sale. Sired by Badger-Bluff Fanny Freddie and a daughter of the Gold-N-Oaks Arabell VG-88 2yr (one of the most heavily contracted Ramos daughters world-wide) Isabella is bred from 9 generations of VG or Excellent dams, she sold to Ven Dairy Holsteins, Netherlands
Selling in absentee, but still creating great interest, Rieten Snowman Roza (GTPI +2332) sold to Sahara Holsteins in the UK. The only Snowman daughter of Rieten Roumare Roza VG-87 2yr, this calf carried numerous contracts, with a maternal line free from Goldwyn, Shottle and Goldwyn! She sold for €19,000 (CAN$25,900).
The exciting prospect of a 1st Choice De-Su Observer from one of the best Shottle daughters in Europe realised €18,800 (CAN$25,600) selling to C Lupschen, Germany. The dam Shottle Silver VG-87 2yr already has 10 sons in European A.I, with 3 Observer heifer calves to select from, the first calf tested already had a GTPI +2335, a PTAT+3.71 and nearly 2000kg Milk!!!
Selling at €18,000 (CAN$24,500) was the first lot through the ring, Lila VG-87 2yr (GTPI +2129)- a Baxter daughter of Comestar Goldwyn Lilac VG-89. Maternal sister to Genervations Lexor, Lila has already produced 25 Grade 1 embryos this lactation, all of which have been exported to the United States.
One of the most stylish calves in the sale, a Scientific SS Dusk calf from the reigning Reserve Red and White Champion Madison Champion-Wilstar-RS TLT Limited Red EX-94 created huge interest. A stunning Red show calf, from 10 generations VG or Excellent dams, she realised €12,800 (CAN$17,450) to German breeder Thomas Wiethege.
Attracting a huge crowd, the 2011 Tulip sale was a huge success, producing one of the highest sale averages for a live auction consignment sale in Europe this year.
