The long-awaited release of BRAEDALE GOLDWYN’S diverse sons confirms one of the breed’s greatest sires is also now a sire of sons – and Semex dominated the latest proof round as THE source for the most comprehensive and exciting group released.
In line with early deviations and global field reports, this group enters the market with force as the biggest influx of new bulls to be assembled in Semex’s history.
They dominate the LPI rankings – 13 placed in the top 100, six in the top 20 and four in the top 10. Semex Holstein sires captured 65 of the top 100 spots, including four new releases in the top 10.
Proven in all areas of Canada and the US, these Goldwyn sons all offer traits influenced by Goldwyn himself, combined with the very best from their maternal lines.
“It’s important to note that these sires are not all the same,” Semex Alliance vice-president global marketing Brad Sayles said.
“They each offer something different, meeting the varying needs of dairies worldwide. Breeders can feel confident that this group are individually the best in the business.”
In the US, Designer Series™ sire COMESTAR LAUTHORITY (Goldwyn X Igniter) is the highest new release and No.2 PTAT sire at +3.61 with exceptional stature at +3.42, silky mammary systems at +2.48 UDC, backed by +3.06 fore udder attachment, +3.60 rear udder height, +3.46 rear udder width and +3.83 udder cleft. Lauthority also ranks as the No.8 LPI sire at +17 conformation (No.6 conformation sire), +15 mammary system and +12 feet and legs. He also scores an exceptional +109 for calving ability, +107 herd life and 2.79 SCS, contributing to his Health$mart™ sire status.
He is from a VG-89 6* Igniter dam (which has two Superior Lactation Awards), followed by a VG-85 2* Emerson (with one Superior Lactation Award) all the way back to Comestar Lausan Black VG-87 23* and the famous 23* Comestar Laurie Sheik matriarch.
Semex’s area manager for northern Victoria and the Riverina, Howard Hodgetts, inspected Lauthority daughters in British Columbia in June.
“These cattle are tall, long, black with good strength of spine, good loins and perfect rump angle,” he said. “Their udder quality was extreme, with tremendous texture, ligaments and teat placement. They show more rib than his sire, Goldwyn, and I could certainly see the Igniter influence right there.
“Obviously his production level, components, environment and health traits make him hard to fault and with 76% Good Plus or better, double digits in four type categories, the numbers are telling us a story.
“I think he’s a seriously good bull. He combines the best traits of Goldwyn and Igniter from the Laurie Sheik family. It’s a superb combination.”
CRACKHOLM FEVER (Goldwyn x Blitz) did not disappoint either with an impressive +19 conformation, making him Semex’s No.1 conformation sire in the breed and Designer Series™ bull. With 106 daughters in his type proof he is an extremely reliable choice.
Fever is from an EX-92 4* Blitz daughter. His next dam is VG-86 4*, followed by a VG-86 13* and five more VG or EX dams from the same family that gave us one of the industry’s icons, Startmore Rudolph.
With a lot more to offer, he's a Health$mart™ sire, with high herd life at +109, calving ability +109, and low 2.75 SCS scores with all other conformation traits way above the breed average.
Additionally, he is a high-fertility Repromax™ sire with CIAQ progeny analyst Carl Saucier summing him up.
“Fever has the highest GP percentage (87%) and 14 VG two-year-olds. It’s the best ever in our area,” Carl said. “They’re tall, easy to find daughters showing lots of width with tremendous udder texture and fore udders. He’ll mate well on anything that’s black and white.”
